The International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme was established in 1968, and is currently active in thousands of schools in many countries, offering programmes to students aged 3 to 19 years. In Singapore, this IB system is offered in international schools like the Canadian International School. IB students go through a different course of education compared to the conventional Ministry of Education (MOE) route.
The IB programme in Singapore starts from the Primary Years Programme (PYP), then to the Middle Years Programme (MYP), and finally to the Diploma Programme (DP). The subjects covered are also different, with students being exposed to subjects like philosophy and economics at an early age. This IB programme is definitely more challenging. Furthermore, Singapore has always been one of the top countries in terms of performance in the IB examinations. This only means that your child has to work even harder just to be ahead of the rest of his or her peers and stand out.
Primary, Middle Year, & Diploma IB Tuition in Singapore
Our home tuition agency provides IB tuition for students aged 3 to 19. Anyone, regardless of age, can benefit from IB tuition in Singapore as they struggle with different areas of the challenging syllabus.
Primary Years Programme (PYP)
The PYP takes in children from 3 to 12 years old, which is from pre-kindergarten to Grade 6. Of course, children in the PYP will not be able to learn everything easily as they are still very young. But, it is pivotal that a child’s solid foundation of the IB programme is laid, as it will be challenging to incorporate the hectic syllabus later on in the future. Thus, it is important that we allow the children to get used to the programme since they were young, also because the formative period of a child’s education is from ages 3 to 12. Therefore, we have patient and understanding IB tutors who will be able to guide your child to develop a keen interest and strong curiosity in learning new things.
MYP (Middle Years Programme)
The MYP is in charge of children aged 13 to 16 years old. The difficulty and depth of subject taught increases. Unlike the syllabus in MOE, children in the IB programme are required to take subjects like philosophy and technology – and do well in it. This is because the IB programme aims to develop internationally-minded students with a wide understanding of humanity, thus explaining wyh the curriculum and syllabus itself is so broad. Doing well in these niche subjects is not easy, but with our private IB tuition, your child will have the right guidance in the right direction, thus helping him or her deal with all sorts of learning hurdles and problems.
DP (Diploma Program)
There are more than 20 institutions in Singapore offering the IB diploma programme. It is broader than the ‘A’ Levels, where students are needed to take six subjects, including Theory of Knowledge, a course combining religion, philosophy, and logical reasoning. IB Programme students also have to take a second or third language, be in-charge of high-commitment research projects, compulsory long-essays and community service projects.
The DP is definitely the most demanding and challenging. At this stage, it is very helpful and beneficial to have IB private tuition to clear your child’s doubts, as it is almost impossible to juggle all the different commitments they have to partake, and excelling in studies at the same time.
