By the time your child graduated from university the jobs will look dramatically different from yours. We have to acknowledge that technological advancement would challenge the labour force in years to come.
In 2013, researchers at Oxford University did a study on the future of work. They concluded that almost one in every two jobs have a high risk of being automated by machines.
Machine learning is the technology that is responsible for most of this disruption. It is the most powerful branch of artificial intelligence (AI). It allows computers to learn from data and mimic some of the things that humans can do.
Over the past years, we have made a significant breakthrough machine learning is now capable of far more complex tasks such as flipping patties at a fast food restaurant.
We have no chance to outperform on frequent, and high-volume tasks but we can excel in a novel situation where machines do not recognise. Thus, there is a limit to the machine, and ultimately we have to operate on it to keep the AI running properly.
While industries leader rack their brains to improve their competitiveness, leverage technology and data to increase income, how do they reduce their expenditure? In keeping with industrial automation and machinery, we will need a smaller labour force, and the unemployment situation in particular industries will continue to grow. We have to pay attention to this seriously.
The only way to solve this issue is to invest in education, promote reformation, and teach our future generation to know how to solve problems and communicate, let them learn the skills that cannot be replaced by computers and machines.
New technology and machines could replace workers, and they even work faster with higher productivity. The key is to educate our children so that they will be able to control and manipulate these machines and move on to a new level of science and technology advancement that will mark the start of another revolution.
